Capital Ultimate Camp was born in 2008 when Dave Soles and Will Smolinski decided that more kids needed to get outside, have fun, and learn about ultimate frisbee.
During the first summer, Dave and Will held one session at HB Woodlawn with seventeen campers. Many of the campers had never touched a disc before and only a few had played in organized settings. Dave and Will quickly discovered that regardless of experience, kids had a blast running around in the sun and learning about the sport of ultimate.
Since 2008, CUC has grown to include 3 weeks of day camps in NOVA, as well as a weeklong overnight camp in Bayside, MD. CUC has increased in size, but the goal of providing a fun, instructional experience has never changed.
Campers learn and improve their fundamentals of throwing, catching, and cutting through drills and scrimmages. Concepts like defensive positioning, field sense, and footwork are introduced throughout the week as well.
Learning opportunities and instruction are balanced with fun, active games like frisbee tennis, capture the frisbee, disc golf, and the always popular ZOMBIE!
Each year CUC brings together energetic, passionate coaches with extensive experience leading youth. Many of our staff are graduates of HB Woodlawn and Yorktown HS and have long histories working with Dave and Will. Check out our Meet the Staff page for the 2014 coach bios!
