Frequently Asked Questions

1.) How old do you have to be to attend CUC? Are there any age limitations?

CUC is designed for campers in middle school and high school.  Each session is tailored for different age groups: Session 1 (ages 12-18), Sessions 2 and 3 (ages 10-15), Session 4 in Bayside, MD (ages 14-18)

Our coaches are dedicated to providing challenging instruction to all individuals, regardless of age or experience. Each player is matched up with someone of her/his ability and speed as much as possible.

3.) Is CUC best suited for beginning, intermediate, or advanced players?

Day camps are best suited for beginning and immediate players. Fundamentals are developed throughout the week using basic drills and concepts. More advanced strategy is taught on an individual or small group level, but is not the main focus.

The Bayside Overnight camp is for advanced players who have played ultimate for 1 or more years at the competitive high school level. Bayside campers learn advanced strategy and play in a more competitive environment. This session supports and challenges players who are driven to improve their game and develop a stronger understanding of the sport.

4.) What are the qualifications of the staff?

Camp directors and coaches are mature, responsible adults who are passionate about working with kids and sharing their love of frisbee. Most of all, our staff are excellent teachers with years of experience playing, coaching, and leading.

Camp Directors Will Smolinski and Dave Soles have each worked in Arlington Public Schools for over a decade. Will has been a P.E. and Health teacher at Williamsburg MS since 2004 and Dave has taught at HB Woodlawn since 1996, until recently moving to teach at Washington-Lee HS.

5.) What do we do when we are not playing ultimate?

Instruction and scrimmaging are balanced with games and activities to let campers relax, have fun, and interact off the field. Games like Battleship, Settlers of Catan, and Connect-4 are staples during lunchtime. Outside games include disc golf, frisbee tennis, ZOMBIE!, Galaxy Wars, and capture the flag.

6.) What if it’s uncomfortably hot outside during camp?

CUC has various ways to keep campers hydrated, cool, and engaged during hot days. Every day several shade tents are posted around the fields for campers to rest, fill up water at our coolers, and get out of the sun. Throughout the day, campers head inside for breaks, lunch, and indoor games. Depending on the severity of heat, activities are adapted for the gymnasium so campers can remain safe in the air conditioning.

Every Wednesday, CUC sets up Slip-N-Slides, SuperSoakers, and a variety of water games to allow campers let loose and cool off. Water Wednesday is always a camp favorite and campers especially enjoy dunking the coaches!
